Just added a new Corvair to the collection...... I believe this to be either a '65 or '66, although there is just not much information out there on these bicycles. Need to tighten some nuts and bolts as well as replace the tires and chain before taking her out for a spin.

Finally had an opportunity in my schedule to head up to Yosemite for a short day trip last week. I am finding myself referring to this trip as: "Two days, two sides to Yosemite" because I visited the main park (via California entrances) and two days later was able to finally visit the Eastern side of the Sierras/Yosemite and Mono Lake via Nevada (as this side is usually in accessible from the west because Tioga Pass which travels through the park is closed a good portion of the year from snowfall). I will be posting more Polaroids just as soon as I have a chance to scan them in. I also shot the main park with expired 600 and Artistic TZ film and will share those as well.

Polaroid 195 & Fuji FP3000b

I found that this day was incredibly difficult to shoot with my various types of Polaroid film due to the constant rainfall, which provided me with little contrast in my images (no matter how much I pushed the exposure and films). My best results came from using ATZ film (from The Impossible Project) and my SX70 Sonar.

I recently picked up a couple of lots of Vintage Kodachrome slides from ebay (spanning from the 1950's through 1980's) for a side project I'm working on. I will be sharing some of the slides on the blog as they are interesting snapshots in time. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have.

This selection is from a lot that included mostly Hawaii travel slides, however, there were also many images from Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay (actually every collection I've picked up thus far has included Monterey vacation images interestingly enough).

Went up to the Bay Area yesterday to look at a '63 Corvair Spyder (matching numbers) that was listed on Craigslist. Runs and drives and the guy wanted to part her out. Couldn't let that happen after hearing the car's story and how it had survived the last 30 years (mostly at an impound lot rotting away). Mistake picking up another project? Probably. To start things off she broke down on the side of the road in Oakland, 10 min into the 2 hr drive home. Now to figure out what to do with her.

Finishing Touches:

Before I left for Huntington Beach last week we brought the Corvair back into the shop to put some finishing touches on the car before the Concours d'LeMons this weekend. I ran over to the shop tonight after arriving back home to see the new spring loaded idler (purchased from Corvair Underground) that was installed in the engine compartment while I was away. The custom toolbox is also coming along nicely and will be upholstered later on this week for final fit in the engine compartment by Friday.

About a month back we came across a Craigslist posting in Pacific Grove for a 1970 Honda CL175 that we just couldn't pass up. She's had a few clutch issues since we brought her back to the shop but is a blast to ride up and down Commission Street otherwise.

I had a really exciting Sunday at the opening weekend for the 2010 race season at Laguna Seca. At lunch hour we got to ride pace laps (at over 100mph) in the Mazda RX8 pace cars - much more exciting than any rollercoaster!!

The old auto repair shop.

Last week while I was in Colorado I drove up to the VERY small town that my Grandmother grew up in. I had forgotten that Gill has only 1 paved road through the entire town and when I arrived the community was a sloshy muddy mess from all the recent rain and snow. I attempted to find my great grandma Sarah Early's old house but was defeated, along with my rental car, by the inches of standing water and ankle deep mud on 3rd ave. Had I been in the Subaru this trip would have been golden.

Quite a large number of houses were boarded up this time and what few businesses were still operating in Gill during the late 90's are now gone. At some point during my life I am sure I will arrive to find it a ghost town.
