Moms' Kitchen

There's no doubt my mom has an antique collection to rival any antique store.
Shot with Polaroid Spectra film.

Oh, and this year I've finally gotten my act together and will be sending out Xmas cards. So email at saraheregnier@gmail.com or comment me with your snail mail addresses and I will be sure to send some Christmas cheer to all of your mailboxes!

My Corvair. Double exposure. Holgaroid with expired type 80 film.

Wharf no. 2

I found two remaining shots last week in my Holgaroid. The Polaroid type 80 film that was left in it probably expired back in '04 or '05 when I was given the camera for one of my birthdays.
Shot these at Wharf #2 in Monterey, Calif. Wish I could still find film for this one.

Impending Storm

Older images of an impending storm. Shot at Wharf 2 in Monterey.

I love the fonts used on old vintage autos.

Asilomar

This is one of the reasons I moved back to California. Surfing during sunset. Unfortunately it's been awhile since I've been. This image was shot with my point and shoot shortly after I moved back from Arizona in 2006.

Azul

Ok, I admit, I cheated - these are not real polaroids but regular, boring, digital shots spiced up with our favorite Polardroid app. I will have new "real" polaroids to share as soon as I get a chance to scan them into my laptop. Earlier this week my new/used Polaroid spectra camera from Ebay arrived and I've been using it quite a bit. It's a great camera and I can't belive I didn't own a Spectra sooner. Also have a few Holgaroid shots taken with some VERY expired Polaroid type 80 film.

Vertigo

Shot this image a few years back at the San Juan Bautista Mission while on assignment for The Pinnacle. I was covering the 50th anniversary of the filming of Alfred Hitchcock's movie Vertigo at the Mission. At some point during the painstakingly long event, I captured this image of a visitor watching two priests walk out of the mission after performing mass in honor of Alfred Hitchcock.

Muller Mortuary est. 1891

I've actually been meaning to post this image of the Whitehurst Muller funeral home in Salinas for quite awhile. I took the image after being inspired by the HBO show Six Feet Under, which I've been watching quite a lot of lately. After watching the series, I've started to wonder about the people who actually work at this funeral home, which I drive by every morning. Today The Californian ran an article about the historic funeral home (which can be read here), which will be closing after 118 years of business in Salinas. Apparently John Steinbeck wrote about Muller Mortuary in East of Eden. Just a sign that even death, which is inevitable, has been unable to escape the current economy.

The AIDS awareness campaign in Africa is pretty interesting. Bilboards are plastered everywhere imaginable. This image was shot in Banjul, Gambia. Banjul in particular had a plethora of signs.

Pumpkin Patch

Probably should have posted these images last weekend before Halloween, however I had forgotten that I still had them on my computer. Shot these several years ago as wildart for the Tribune at a chruch in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Good Night, and Good Luck:

East Valley Tribune article
Arizona Republic article

I was really disappointed, yet not at all surprised, yesterday when I heard that The East Valley Tribune would finally be closing it's doors after 118 years of publication. Was the economy to blame? Bad management? Probably a combination of both. Not the mention the refusal and subsequent floundering that newspapers have been experiencing when it comes to embracing the changes that technology and the internet have brought upon the industry. Sadly though, with it goes all the talented reporters, photographers, columnists and editors who make a difference and an impact on their surrounding community.

Halloween at the Vet:

Spent most of my day on Halloween at the vet with the cat. His jaw had swollen shut from a tooth which he had apparently lost a few days prior. Needless to say he's pretty pissed right about now - tomorrow morning he goes in for surgery.

I've always wanted to do a photoessay on grave diggers. Hopefully one of these days I can find the time.

gettin' close to hitting the road again:

The Corvair is literally about a week away from hitting the road again. Here is a preview of the engine compartment in it's finishing stages. The new wheels and tires went on today but still need some modification. We are waiting on one last order of parts to arrive from Clarks Corvair (new thermostat, heater ducting, headers, etc) before everything can be finalized and we can finally take a test drive.

My little Honda CT70 gave me hell last Saturday when I went out for a ride. We thought we had fixed her with some tuning a few weeks ago but turns out otherwise. She's been running about as well as the other two bikes at the shop - which are currently in pieces.

The Impossible Project

I'm sure most of you at least felt a hint of disappointment with the news last year that Polaroid had finally discontinued all production of their instant films and cameras - and I'm sure by now that many of you have heard of The Impossible Project and the team of 12 guys who are re-inventing instant film for use in vintage Polaroid cameras. Last week Polaroid announced that they will be re-launching some of their instant cameras for a limited run and commissioning The Impossible Project to produce film for these cameras. I have been following The Impossible Project for several months now and have been really about the prospect of being able to shoot my old sx-70's yet again. Be sure to support these guys and pick up a pack or two of instant film for your old (and no longer useless) Polaroid cameras in 2010. I'm sure that we can all agree upon keeping these guys in business for the years to come so we can keep shooting our Polaroids and keep the tradition of instant film alive for future generations.

The following 4 posts are all Polaroid related:

Polaroid SX-70 Sonar OneStep. Circa 1978.

Polaroid CB80 Instant Camera Back for Holga. Discontinued in 2006.

60 Seconds: Cherries Jubilee

Yet more shots of classic cars from Cherries Jubliee: I shot these several years ago (2006 I believe) with my LAST 2 packs of Polaroid Time Zero film (which had already been discontinued at this point). I had been saving the film for a special occasion because after it's discontinuation prices for remaining packs of Time Zero had already sky rocketed to around $80.00 each (for 10 shots).

All images were shot with a Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera Sonar OneStep using Time Zero film.

60 Seconds: Arizona

I recently came across some test shots that I took a few years ago in Arizona. The first two shots I was testing out my new/used SX-70 and time zero film:

These shots I was testing out a new Holga that came with a Polaroid back that I received from David for my birthday. I can't remember what film I was using but I believe it was the 667 made by Polaroid.

60 Seconds: Lakeshore, California

Polaroids shot with a One600 and expired 600 instant film.

Here are some more shots from Cherries Jubilee last month shot with the Digital Harinezumi. I've been way to busy these days with wedding season wrapping up to actually go out and shoot anything new for the blog.

16 October 2009

drivin' in the rain

I shot some video with the Digital Harinezumi earlier this week during that major storm that swept over the central coast. It was also a good opportunity to use my flexpod - which I was able to suction cup to my windshield and shoot footage with.

Snapshots

This last week I've actually carried my canon around with on the way to work, running errands, etc (I was really hoping to take some great storm shots but then got a little discouraged by the torrential downpour that lasted all day). All images were taken with the 50mm 1.4 lens. One of these days I'll step it up and get that 1.2 I've been longing for.

Placing the last Clark's order tonight - hopefully she'll be back out on the road regularly in the next 2 weeks.

Forging On

There has been a serious lack of journalism in my life for the last year or so since all the layoffs at The Pinnacle. Here is a photo essay I did about the new forge that was built/refurbished at the San Juan Bautista Mission. This essay won honorable mention in last year's CNPA awards.

Bill Mohrmann watches the fire burn in the new forge that he built at Mission San Juan Bautista.

Bill Martinie checks to see that metal for a fire starter kit was forged properly by striking it against a piece of flint Jan. 5 in San Juan Bautista.

Smoke engulfs the blacksmith shop as Reb Monaco starts the fire in the new forge at Mission San Juan Bautista Jan. 5.

The fire burning in the new forge at Mission San Juan Bautista is reflected in Reb Monaco’s glasses while he controls the bellows.

Bill Martinie uses the anvil as a workbench to shape a piece of metal from the forge Jan. 5 in San Juan Bautista.
